GoDaddy Hack Breaches Hosting Account Credentials

Post by Accrete »

Hopefully those of you who use GoDaddy for you web hosting have been notified about this:
The domain registrar giant said that the breach started in October 2019.

GoDaddy, the world’s largest domain name registrar, is warning customers that attackers may have obtained their web hosting account credentials.

An “unauthorized individual” was able to access users’ login details in an intrusion that took place back in October. The company said that the breach only affected hosting accounts, not general GoDaddy.com customer accounts, and that no customer data in the main accounts was accessed. The Scottsdale, Ariz.-based company has more than 19 million customers worldwide, but there’s no word on how many of them are affected by this incident.

The company also didn’t mention when it discovered the incident, how long the attacker had access to the credentials, or why the breach wasn’t revealed until now.

More on this from Wordfence:
A few moments ago, we published a public service announcement (PSA) regarding a security issue which may impact some of our customers.
On May 4, 2020, GoDaddy, one of the world’s largest website hosting providers, disclosed that the SSH credentials of approximately 28,000 GoDaddy hosting accounts were compromised by an unauthorized attacker.
