So what are your thoughts on Windows 11, and are you going to upgrade to Windows 11 when it is released?

The compatibility app is not ready yet I guess I will be waiting to see which of our PCs can be upgraded. I have 2 "dead" computers I was going to try and combine to make one "good" Win10 machine.

If you have to be logged in all the time to use the PC I won't be impressed.

I just installed the Windows 10 21H1 update, and now it seems Microsoft require you to have a Microsoft user account for local user accounts on the computer. Only way to create a new local user account without a Microsoft user account is to disconnect the Internet connection when you create a new user account. Hope Windows 11 will not continue that practice...

I always wait for the 3rd rollout.

I find one drive annoying enough. IMO, a computer that must have internet to use is a doorstop.

I have not read this completely but if I can't back up my own stuff my way I will be pissed. It's already a PIA Office wants you logged in all the time.

Microsoft has been touting a lot of big changes coming to Windows 11, including a UI overhaul for the many elements across the experience, including an updated version of the Start menu and taskbar, new features like Widgets, and redesigned Settings and File Explorer apps. However, the most recent previews for testers also reveal a number of other hidden changes.

These changes are hiding in plain sight, and you can find them in File Explorer, Desktop, Settings app, and across the experience. Some are welcome additions, while others feel like a step back...

Whatever upgrade to Win10 I did on this new machine wanted a PIN and it won't let me change it back to using a password instead.

It seems that those options may still be available:

As you can see, the options to back up your files locally to an external storage or create a full backup are not available on this page. However, the Settings is burying these features in the "Storage page," under the "Advanced storage settings," in the Backup options. Of course, you can still access these legacy features using Control Panel.

I assume you are referring to local backups.

I'm using Windows 10 Enterprise, i don't know if that makes a difference. In any event, i don't like that Microsoft is going in a directions, where they decide what users should use, instead of letting the users decide for them self.

I was actually thinking about Chrome OS, or if there exists an Android version for PC, but we also know how happy Google are about collection information from users, so maybe that is not the right choice either.

It seems you it last need a Microsoft account for installing Windows 11, so i am not sure that i will install it when it is released...
