So unless you yourself are a marketer you probably find all the popups, overlays and notices that appear on the websites you visit in a day annoying.

On and only on sites that annoy me I use noscript as an add on to Firefox. Unless you globally block the servers you do have to do it on a per site basis. Some sites aren't worth the few seconds it takes to block so I just leave. Sites that serve ads in a tasteful manner don't get blocked.
