Not been around for a while. I've been sweating off some covid pounds (see other thread).

Hopefully by now you are all over it.

Keep your distance and wear your mask. We removed all restrictions and than came Delta. We currently have a major surge going on and the hospitals are getting full.

@LMD The situation is much worse in Florida due to their Governor catering to the rec industry and forbidding masks. A fully vacxed friend caught a case and said they were laying in the streets when he tried to go to the ER. Looked liked the Zombie movies.

Relief from the heat comes tomorrow. Today's "feel like" temp, is expected to be 42C. These days, we have a morning coffee in the back yard, but because of the trees surrounding the property, and the fact there's little breeze these days, it gets too hot out there. Then I try the front porch for a bit, where there's more chance of a breeze, but then it's in the house till after dinner mostly. ;)

I'm not sure what exactly our mandates regarding Covid are any more, but we just wear the masks, stay clear of everyone as best as can be and (especially at grocery/pharma stores etc) and use hand sanitizer.

I've been closely watching whatever news about Florida I can find, and yes, the situation is frightening. But, apparently it's not so bad according to those in power. :o

Maybe I'm paying more attention to government actions down there because of our travel plans, but it seems to me, obtaining political power, far outweighs the needs of the people and doing the right thing. Here too, but it's not so blatant. ;)

We have cancellation options for air and accommodations that I don't really want to have to use. I don't want to have to learn cross country skiing this winter.

Florida is tourist economy. The Gov is supporting that to the determent of the people. From people who live there; "it is much worse that we are being told'. I personally would not go with an all expenses and all the beer I could drink paid trip.

I hate to rain on your plans but you really need to keep an eye on it.

I had 3 glorious months of freedom but am back to wearing my mask when I go into stores. I hate the damned thing and can hardly breathe with it on but I hear breathing is a bit more difficult with Covid. I read somewhere from a survivor that it is like having a 50 pound bag of concrete mix on your chest.

I hear you.

Exactly what I'm doing now, and will continue going forward. Will have to make a decision by Xmas either way. So much going on internationally now, Covid has taken a back seat in the news.

That is scary. Don't want any of that!

We have had a major uptick in our summer tourist area (Okanagon). Provincial Health Officer put in restrictions in that area. Now we are back to masks everywhere province wide.

They are implementing a provincial vaccine passport Sept 13 for going to non essential places like restaurants, football games, ticketed events, etc. Only thing is you need a smart phone to download their app after you do a dance of signing up with Ministry of Health. We didn't go to these places before COVID so not going to be rushing into that. Seems like a waste of time and money for a short term solution. It did get the 40 and younger crowd to rush and register for vaccination and get their shots though. :D She won that part anyways. PHO and Health Ministry have really been pushing for vaccination.

Major businesses and universities are implementing mandatory vaccination.

It is sad that some people don't get that history is repeating itself and the only way to get rid of this is through vaccination for everyone.
Yours truly,

I like the idea of passports, for access to events, places of entertainment, dining etc. I know there's a lot of resistance and blow-back on this (mostly from non-vaxxed), who complain about the restrictions, but what the heck!

The fact I don't really feel comfortable about being in stores, malls, and especially restaurants, we'll home-cook or get takeout. I realize takeout may have it's potential issues, but I feel it would be a lot less than eating out somewhere.

Regarding travel however, what vaccine travel passports will do for those fully vaxxed in terms of where they are travelling to, who knows. I understand we'll get clarity on this in the fall (which is just around the corner). That said, until we get a consensus of travel, domestically and internationally, I'll withhold judgement at this time. I will say, however, that travelling in a tube crammed with people, with limited fresh air, scares me right now.

2 cents.

Seems the rules are changing every week - sometimes almost daily. One day recently I was surprised to hear on the news that travel to the US only requires confirmation of having two vaccine shots. We now have a qr code passport here for local venue access, as well as for international travel. Returning to Canada, however, requires a negative Covid result test received within three days of return. Kind of strange that US travelers to Canada only have to show having a double vaccine dose confirmation to come in to the country, but not a negative Covid test.

Now I'm reading on our fed government website, that to enter the US, foreigners actually do require a neg Covid test along with proof of double vaccination. I wonder when the booster shot will be necessary to validate for travel. That, and I'm hearing a Covid test taken in the US can cost anywhere between $75 and $300. :confused and shocked:

If that's the case, then i am glad we pay for health care through taxes in Denmark, so we can pretty much just get the health care need without paying any thing extra for it here.

How do you pay for health care where you are located?

Tests done here are at no cost when performed at a clinic or pharmacy, as far as I am aware. The rules on travelling to the US by air vs car are different. I can't say why, but it is - at least for now. So, what I do know, is when travelling by air, the US border requires a vax passport, and a neg test done no more than three days before getting on a plane. So, getting a test has to be timed right. For cars and buses crossing into the US, at least for the moment, I think only a vax passport is needed. I don't quite understand the reasoning, but it is what it is.

When returning here from vacationing in the US, again, at least for now, our border requires the vax passport and a neg a performed, again, no more than 3 days prior to re-entering the country.

On the news I watched a segment where travellers to southern locations in the US, are having their cars shipped to Buffalo, and are taking a short helicopter ride over the border, picking up their car, and then continuing on south. A lot are trying to get down there before more strict border crossing rules come into effect.

No doubt, these border crossing rules will be different in a couple weeks.

They do seem to change the rules a lot these Corona days.

That is one of the things that makes me happy that i am not a big traveler :)
