It is in the little things (daily tasks) that we remember.

So, it was either wait to get the Moderna or Pfizer shot in June/July (maybe), or, get the AstraZeneca now. Looking at the efficacy of the AZ vaccine, it's actually better to wait at least 12 weeks for the second dose as spacing it out gives a higher efficacy for some reason. Spacing the doses out isn't going to be a problem, mostly because of the lack of supply. In fact, the AZ vaccine was being tested during the "raging" pandemic timeframe and with the variants (it does well against all but the SA variant), rather than the timeframe the other two were being tested at, which was during low infections and little to no mention of the variants.

So now the government health administrators here (not the health professionals) have officially changed the protocol for "second vaccine doses" to be scheduled 12-16 weeks after the first shot so that more people will have at least some protection. For the AstraZeneca vaccine, a 12 week delay between shots apparently results in better efficacy than the original 4-6 weeks, so that works out well for that vaccine.

However, if I recall correctly, an article I read recently (can't remember where since I've been reading so much on the subject) suggested that Pfizer and Moderna efficacy begins waning at a certain point after the first injection. A point in time that is less than 16 weeks after the first dose. Let's hope those that get the first dose are still protected well enough during the wait for the second. And, hoping that after the second dose, the efficacy is still in the range the scientists and doctors achieved during the trials.

I'm impressed that Biden is sharing some of the currently stockpiled AZ vaccines, with Canada (and Mexico), regardless of the reasons. But never the less, it's a good move and certainly appreciated by both governments and citizens.

Our province is doing well with their age based approach. Dates are moving up based on supply available.

Some groups of essential workers are included now on a separate line of vaccination.

Poor Brazil. It is such a mess there.

Looks like either Florida is going to be raging with Covid in the next two weeks, and/or all the places the partiers will be returning home to when they sober up.

This just in, says Dr. Ashish Jha, the Dean of the Brown University School of Public Health re the spring break in Florida:
Expert Warns Spring Breakers May Infect You When They Return Home
“I’m worried about this,” said Jha. “You know, even last March, we saw this with the Spring Break crowds at what happened in the weeks that followed was spread of infection across the whole country. Even if young people themselves don't get very sick, usually, they are very efficient spreaders of this disease. And so what's going to happen is they're going to take it home. They're gonna infect vulnerable people who have not yet been vaccinated. And that's what we're all worried about,” he said.

Honestly I would take whatever I could get.

As of Monday (3-28) we are opening it up to anyone over the age of 40.

Our province's infection numbers have recently begun increasing, and the now premier decides to loosen restrictions. We were maybe 3-4 weeks away from reducing infections, easing hospitalization, and getting ready for a great summer. However, that doesn't look like it's going to happen. I think they all assumed more people would be vaccinated by now.

Well, asking nicely hasn't worked with the 20-40 yr olds here. Dr. Henry laid down the law today for the next 3 weeks.

Counts going up from gatherings including restaurants so no dining in and stay the hell home! Whistler (internationally known ski resort here) closed by order till April 19 because of continued cases.

Dr. Henry is very good at explaining the why. Why can't people just do as she asked and get this over with.

Because they have no respect for the rights of others. It spans all social and economic levels.
