D8876&% spell checker. Yes.

Our case counts are through the roof for the last 2 days and more to come. I hope hugging grandma was worth it.

I'm hoping our province opens on schedule, which, if things go well, should be on Jan 20th. I will assume it'll be a "controlled opening" where some things will open immediately, and other businesses will open in a modified way. I was just thinking about that as I'm trying to schedule a fitting for irons sometime in February. I know it's not an essential services, but heck, it'll be 8 weeks from order to delivery!

Our provincial state of emergency has been extended.

Our Provincial Health Officer has renewed her orders till Feb 5.

Complaints about slow progress on vaccination but they can only inoculate as many people as there is vaccine available. We had a doctor and nursing shortage before the pandemic. There are doctors and nurses coming out of retirement to help but it still is not enough to take care of people and provide shots.

Certainly a rude awakening about retirement homes.

So, our region is now out of "lockdown" as of today, and while "open", we have to follow some restrictive conditions. The problem with this "opening", is that while our specific area within the region is rated as "good" in terms of reduced infections, hospital stays and deaths - a near-by part of our region is operating at an advanced level of bird-brained ignorance, which has helped drag us all down into lockdown longer than other regions. It seems to be populated by people that just don't give a crap about COVID-19 virus issues and transmissions.

Granted, while there are some within this area that are fine with COVID safety measures, it seems there is a majority that are not operating on all cylinders. It is this part of the region that has been "raging" with COVID cases and hospital admittances, and caused us all to be in lockdown longer than other areas.

And, it is this segment of the region that will certainly either make-or-break us, in terms of whether we can get out and do a few things that have been restricted, or sending us all back into another lockdown. SMH!

I really detest that our success or failure rests on the behaviour of those half-wits.

In our province the 80+ are supposed to get their vaccinations Mar 16-31 however, there is no info on how to sign up and where to go. Hopefully get that info out soon...

The big thing right now is the British variant was detected in 7 schools in my area. That doesn't mean they are all sick, just that about 10 groups and some staff have to self isolate for 2 weeks.

Now in the news: "region hoppers" from locked down areas are travelling to areas that are now open. Sheesh! What's the point of keeping one area closed, if all you have to do is cross the street, and shop at business that are now open?? I realize businesses in open areas want more traffic now, and I understand why they don't really care where people are coming from, but WFT? Either all areas should be open, or they all stay closed!

Getting pretty tired of all the whining... Our Provincial Health Officer has tried to not close everything down, implemented safety plans so things can stay open and people can still go to work. If they frigging listened to her updates (2x per week live with question period) they would know the whys... Relying only what is on the news is not good. They take some stuff out of context for the headline. There is no excuse for not watching the update yourself. Recordings are available all over if you are not home/available at the time of the live update.

Maybe she should just close everything for a month and be done with it.

Whining about no vaccination plan. Not true. Once again, if you watched their specific presentation/update on the vaccination plan you would know. Not their fault the manufacturers are not keeping their promises.

Oh, where are they going to get the thousands of qualified people to administer the vaccines? We had a nursing and doctor issue before the pandemic... Graciously, doctors and nurses have come out of retirement to help at the start of the pandemic but they, like the younger medical people, are burnt out now.

The PHO has issued an order that certain other people (like dentists and pharmacists) can administer the shots to help get this done quickly. There are thousands of people required to do this - not just medical people.

Don't get me started on the retirement home issue. Think I'll be like my parents and want to stay at home till my time comes.

<end rant>

Here I think it mostly volunteer injectors. Some employers may be paying them their regular wage while they donate the time.

Under supervision do you have to be a nurse to inject? It does not seem it is all that complicated.

The bad weather played havoc with the schedules but we seem to be back on track.

With the constantly changing order of "who gets a shot and when", at least here, the evening news indicates that we are lagging behind. I don't know what the actual numbers are, but apparently it isn't great. What I've come to understand, is that when there is a target month that I will qualify for getting the shot, it can't come soon enough. I also understand that masks, distancing, handwashing/sanitizing will go on. However, with the latest info just out, it looks like I'll miss the third group by one month. It's kind of funny though, because those that are over the age of 60, are supposed to be the most vulnerable. As of now, those 60-65 won't be getting shots until at least August.

The saga continues... ;)

PS: Dad had it his way - staying at home almost to the end, but had to be hospitalized for a few months before he left us.
