It is the most flavorful way to finish off the turkey.
Never heard of that before but it does sound good.

We toast the bread first when making tuna melts so you can pick it up but guest with a hot brown you would use a knife and fork.

Definitely a knife and fork meal. Some folks use salt cured ham, most use bacon.

We leave off the tomatoes as they are not in season and are mostly for some color on the plate. :)

Part of saving on groceries is storing your fresh stuff properly.
Storing your food properly is one of the keys to extending its life. You might think that you can toss all food together in a fruit bowl or basket, but that would be wrong. Some produce shouldn’t be stored together.

When you put all of your food together, you’re dooming it from the start. Some foods contain a gas called ethylene, and it can destroy other fruits and vegetables around it.
19 Fruits and Veggies You Should Never Store Together

Did you learn you are storing some of your veg and fruit in correctly?

I'm guilty too. I'll add that to the list of things I need to do around here.

First things first - It's the first weekend of December, and we follow an unwritten fam rule, that the tree doesn't go up before that. So, the tree goes up this weekend and were going to see home made shortbread cookies, each, with a little piece of red maraschino cherry on top. I'm a slave to these home made cookies!

They say the average family will be spending about $700 more on groceries this coming year. I'm assuming it's to do with the pandemic, wild fires and heatwaves - all costing an average family close to $14k per year.

But, if, we don't get herd immunity with a vaccine they will spend 21-2800 less at eating out. :) As that is the normal markup.

Ya, I'm trying to figure that one out. I don't think our family spends that much money going out for dins, but that's because I guess we go out maybe 4 or 5 times per year - never really thought about how often we'd dine out. We'll probably do more of that when the kids are finally out on their own. ;) Just imagine how much we'll save on groceries!! :o

But I guess if a family normally did get out that much, sure, they'd have saved some money over the last year. I know my BIL saved a lot of $ by not travelling, but they have so much $ I'm sure they don't really think of it that way. If they do think of how much they've saved, they'll just book extra travel later this year and into next.

Just happen to do a major grocery shop yesterday and have the receipt on my desk.

For some reason the shelves were not stocked well - maybe because the main highway in the Rockies is down with snow??

Individual yogurt - $10! for 16 (usually can get for about $6)
Leaf lettuce - $3.49! (in summer can get for about $1)
Tuna - $2.19! (and it wasn't Clover Leaf!)
Large loaf house brand bread - $2.29!
House brand canned mushrooms - $1.69! (use to be $.89 on sale)

This COVID thing is a PIA. Limiting places where we go is pricey. I normally make a list of what is on sale at different stores and make a plan to pick up while in the area.

Jimmy Patterson is making a mint!

You also have to pay for bags or pack your own bags you bring.

Our shelves here are fine. I'll have to check prices, but have noticed some increases for sure.

I picked up a couple of really nice grocery bags from Metro. Well, not really a bag. It's more like a fold out box (not a big one), just big enough to put quit a bit of groceries in it and can take quite a bit of weight too. But - not all the cashiers will put the groceries in that carrying bag. We have to.
