Yep, does look like everybody has other things to do. Maybe they gone because of the good weather, but there must be some other reasons to, since they haven't been much around for a while.

Re: Passing the Time at Home
Hmmmm. I'm going to have to find another hobby. DW would have me cleaning the basement if I ever inferred I didn't have much to do.

I hope you don't, i like to see some posting on this forum. Not to talk about preventing you from the horror of cleaning the basement

Re: Passing the Time at Home
The basement task is an inevitability. But, before I get to that choice task, I first have to get past the painting projects, which start in the laundry room today. (heavy sigh)

Both Bryan Baeumler and Mike Holmes usually find that there is an insulation problem when people complain there is a heat problem in a room over the garage. Also, they run into issues with the gases from the car getting into the house through openings in the walls in the garage. Maybe do some investigation and see if insulation is the issue?LMD wrote: ↑Sat Jun 12, 2021 10:16 pm So, during the last heat wave, I thought I'd get a quote for a thermostatic controlled "exhaust" fan to be installed in the garage. There is one bedroom upstairs over the garage that, besides facing west, gets hot because of any car engine heat. When one of the cars goes for a drive, then returns, and parks in the garage, the heat from the engine is excessive. So, I figured the fan would take out the hotest of the air. The HVAC guy said yes to that, but it would also pull in hot air from around the door from outside. Kind of negating the purpose of the fan. The guy also said it would be easier and not cost anything to partiall cover the cold air return on the main floor, there by pulling more hot air from upstairs. That, and the fact the fan would also circulate cooler air from the basement around the house when the AC isn't on. Confused yet?
You need the air return for the furnace to work properly.
We didn't have an air conditioner in our house growing up but to cool the bedrooms in the summer Dad put a box fan in the open sliding door in the master bedroom to pull hot air outside. This pulled the cool air up from the basement via the open stairwell to the basement. Works really good! It was nice and cool in the bedrooms at bedtime.

Aren't you a lucky duck. I usually just look from where the ball landed to where I want to get it and decide what club to use.LMD wrote: ↑Thu Jun 17, 2021 6:37 pm So, about a week ago my BIL from out west texts me and asks me what I think about range finders used for golf - because, he is thinking about getting one for himself. He pointed out the manufacturer, the level of tech, and strangely enough, the cost. Asked me what I thought about them in general, and specifically the one he's "thinking about getting".
So, knowing that he, and his DW were fishing for something to get me for my bd next month, I say that I don't have one (a range finder that is), but I guess it could come in handy - "for him".
Four days later, we get a suspicious delivery to the house that my DW wouldn't even let me inspect. So, who wants to hazard a guess that someone in this household is getting a range finder for their birthday?

So we have been busy clearing out paid storage room. Lots of junk. Hired someone to haul it away.
Then the local Rotary Club was having a Shred a Thon so on to boxes of paperwork looking if anything important to pull from them. 4 banker boxes off to the Shed a Thon....
We have been having a heat wave for going on 2 weeks now. Hottest will be this coming weekend. Good thing kitties get us up early in the am or else no chores would get done in this heat.

Re: Passing the Time at Home
There is builder insulation in the ceiling, but the key word is "builder". Id have to either rip down the existing garage ceiling, or see if there is an insulation injection service that won't be too costly. Junior will probably be leaving in a year maybe, so cost has to be reasonable.Accrete wrote: ↑Wed Jun 23, 2021 12:17 pm

Covering up returns: yup, have to be careful. The suggestion was to cover about 1/3 of just one of the two returns on the main floor.
