Although, I don't know how they're predicting the snowfall next Monday. Spinning wheel? Rock, paper, scissors? :?
The weather and new guy ( TV) and more or less confirmed by thoughts that for here this is the nastiest Feb weather they can recall in their 35+ years of experience. 3 major fronts went though and another due in late today all below freezing.

The fish pound is down to about a 10" clear circle where the air pump keeps the water moving.

This is the kind of weather that I remember experiencing as a kid. Not as bad as Quebec, but pretty normal. Lately (the last few years), it's been warmer for sure. This year, December was a great month (if you don't like snow), but even Jan was pretty good.

But for places that don't normally get snow (or at least not that much), it can be devastating. A weather guy in the US explained it like this: in AZ, for example, getting a house temp down to 78F, when it's 100F outside, is easier than trying to heat a home to 75F, when it's 25F outside. The temperature differential, and subsequent power needs, is greater now (winter in the south), than the summer. At least that's how he explained it.

We have another storm, originating in the Texas/Gulf area headed our way again, which should be here Thursday night, into Friday. Then, it looks like another one on Monday into Tuesday.

All I can say is, it looks like a "marshmallow world" out there!

Our summers are quite limited here. By limited, I mean maybe July and August are the warmest. June and September can go either way.

Anyone going to be tuning in for the Mars Perseverance landing this afternoon? Unfortunately, I have an appointment this afternoon, but assume NASA tv will be broadcasting the event, and hope to record whatever feed they have.

I'm tuning into this site now and then for updates (https://mars.nasa.gov/mars2020/) it's really kind of interesting in that they show live stats re distance travelled, current speed (MPH), distance left to travel. It's currently travelling over 47,000 mph, and watching the countdown (distance to Mars Orbit), it looks like it's travelling about 100 miles in about 7 seconds, if the visuals are correct.

Right now, it's slightly more than the moon/earth distance from Mars. So, that's just over 300,000 miles to go.

Just a little info:

Mission Name: Mars 2020
Rover Name: Perseverance
Main Job: Seek signs of ancient life and collect samples of rock and regolith (broken rock and soil) for possible return to Earth.
Launch: July 30, 2020
Landing: Feb. 18, 2021
Landing Site: Jezero Crater, Mars
Tech Demo: The Mars Helicopter is a technology demonstration, hitching a ride on the Perseverance rover.

I also think our summer is a bit limited, but they seem to get hotter these years. I actually like it a bit cold, i get very lazy when it gets to hot outside.

This time of year, I dream of summer. But June and September can be really nice - warm days, cool nights. The trouble is when we get an oppressive heatwave. Sometimes they last 4 or 5 days. To golf, one has to tee off around 8am, to finish by 11-12pm ish. If taking an electric cart, I will certainly golf in the afternoon heat. But, if there are no carts (they're all out on the course and the lineup/list for the next cart is too long), I'll just putt for a bit. If I have to walk in the heat, I'll pass. That said, I've already warned DW that when the days get hot, we have to get to the course really early.

Note: I'm the early riser.

It sound like a good idea to use the early hours of the day on days where there is a lot of heat. DW can probably live with it, if it's only for a few days.

We'll see what happens. Not really applicable until early July, so plenty of time to prepare DW for the early mornings. That being said, they're now introducing online booking for the first time at the club this year. Getting on as a "single", will be easy. Booking time as a "pair" might be a bit harder, but trying to book a 3 or 4-some will be tough.

As it was, I would just show up, pay for the guests, see the starter, and tee off almost right away. If there was a wait, it was maybe 10 minutes. Weather can be hard to predict, so waking up, checking the local forecast, and then deciding when to show up at the course was easy.

I can see it now: members booking maybe a 3 or 4-some, then show up with one partner/guest/member (just to negate any pairs from booking in with them). Or, booking a couple of days in advance even when they don't know for sure if they'll be able to play or not, and then sometimes not even show up. These are stories I've heard from members of other courses with online booking systems. I'm sure that kind of repeated abuse won't be tolerated, but still...

I look at the fake tomatoes in the grocery and dream of real ones from the yard.

Lmd looks at snowballs and dreams of golf.

JH has spent too much time in a cool climate though I do agree the long, hot humid days are awful.

Accrete is probably happy as long as the cats are happy. :)

Well, you've spent some time posting about the freezing pond in the back 40 also. ;)

Actually, I have just managed resolve for a vacuum issue that has been going on since the beginning of January, all the while watching the Tournament of Champions, The Sony Open, The American Express, Farmers Insurance Open, the Phoenix Open (one of my faves), the Pro-AM at Pebble beach, and now, the Genesis Open.

You see, I can do many things at one time.
