Passing the Time at Home

26 years next month and while it could use a screen and finish the kitchen hardwood has held up fine. We are on our second disposal, stove, fridge and dishwasher and none of the deaths have affected the floor.

An overflowing evaporator pan on a fridge is most likely to cause a problem but when that happens the fridge is usually warm inside because the evap fan quit working. I happen to be very attentive to the fridge temp. I suppose some aren't.

It is of great interest to me too!

I keep a small container of frozen water with a metal washer on top in both freezers. If i check and see the washer is not on top of the ice, and its in the middle or on the bottom of the container, there might have been a thaw due to potential operation or power outage issues, and then figure out what to do with the contents.

Funny you mentioned a fridge.

I have a thermometer in the fridge so we could set the fridge and freeze (side by side) at the right temps when we moved here. Noticed the leaf lettace was freezing on the shelf when up against the wall of the fridge that the freezer is on the other side. Moved the container for lettace to middle of the fridge. Now a different container with the green onions and radishes is in that spot and getting ice. Everything else is ok. Just seems weird that one spot freezes.

I went as far as placing a little temperature gage/device around the fridge interior, to see what the temp actually was in various areas. I tried the top shelf, back top shelf, left side, right sides, lower shelf areas, both doors etc, and confirmed that there can be a variance of anywhere between 4C and 7C, depending on where I checked. These temp variations were noted with the fridge set to cool at 4C (a recommended default temp).

Note: earlier last year, when the pandemic was really beginning to ramping up, I was buying enough food to last at least 7 days, with a lot of it needing to be in the fridge. During that time, I found that my "packed fridge" would not allow for good "cool air circulation", and some items (near the back) did in fact, get a bit frosty. Close to frozen, but not quite there. Once I moved things around a bit, made sure the back area was not "packed", it was better.

Now that is a smart extremely low tech way to have a high low tracking thermometer.

Thanks for the idea of what might be the problem. The fridge hasn't been overly packed. It's been going on for a few months.

I'm going to try your idea of moving the thermometer around and see what that shows.

When I spoke to the repair guy here for another unrelated issue, he mentioned that any fridge freezing could be because of a need to (and i can't remember exactly what he said) to do some sort of reset because it wasn't "cycling" properly (whatever that means). I think it was due to some improper cycle of "cooling" "not cooling" or something similar (if that makes any sense). For me, it was just moving things around for better air flow.

The previous owner here was kind enough to leave the manuals for the appliances. I see can if I find the instructions for resetting. Thanks.

It's snowing here today!!! Big deal because contrary to popular belief it doesn't snow much in this part of Canada.

Firstly, Happy Valentines Day to everyone here!

It's Friged cold here! Cold air usually makes it way south from the Arctic, and in this case, it settles over AB, then the Bertans are so kind to share the cold air with us here via the Jetstream.

Something I'm looking forward to, is getting new golf irons, if the current band of Covid-spreading individuals put some effort in NOT spreading the virus. Anyhow, I had a golf "fitting" appointment moved from March 1st back a week in case the province extends the stay-at-home shutdown beyond 22nd of this month. Interestingly enough, I figured I'd be going to a warehouse where TM have all their simulator machines, but just found out our club has installed 3 of these simulators on-site. So now I will be heading to our club to get fitted as TM will be bringing all their "stuff" here.
