Hmmmm. Utilities came by today with their can of red spray paint. Apparently they just do gas and hydro. The exterior water turn off is at the foot of the driveway. I guess water from the street, is deep underground, then comes in the house under the foundation, then up thru the basement floor. That way pipes from the street wont freeze in the winter. Makes sense.

I have pictures of the lot before the house and sidewalks went in, but that was almost 14 years ago.

Phone, cable and fiber are the shallow ones and most likely to be cut. Here one call does it all but the services are marked by different companies with the phone and cable guys being the least accurate.

In the US underground main feeders for elec are at least 3' deep and house drops are at least 2'.

You may have more people coming.

I forgot about cable. Phone lines I don't think about, because I terminated that service over a year ago. They can come and paint-away. There's a nice "candy apple" red paint on the sidewalk and lawn now.

I don't have special plans for the weekend. I have to do some cleaning work on Sunday that is about it.

Pretty much the same thing I've been doing since the first of March. Staying home, eating and drinking too much. I may watch the Derby on Saturday and do a mental reset to Spring. :)

This year it will herald the end of summer instead of the beginning.

The "turning off" of the water main caused two problems - the water softener has a very slow drip now, that wont stop, and our touchless kitchen faucet is leaking thru the nozzel when in the "off" position. The Irrigation company is paying for the water softener service/repair, but isn't going near the faucet repair.

Well, all they did was turn off the watermain at the source. I use the faucet manually now, but I'm hoping the faucet will seal itself.

Kind of a long story, but, the control box usually needs replacing every 18 months or so. And, its about the time it would be happening again. I think the "turning off" of the water exacerbated the issue. Anyhow, I called Danze (the faucet company), and a new "control box" is what they usually send, but they don't make the faucet any more, and there are no control boxes are in stock.

I will be getting a $400 store credit with Canadian Tire, so not all is lost.

Turning water off and on often causes problems as stuff breaks loose in the system. Sounds like both companies played fair.

Now I understand why the stupid things never work in the public johns.
