I only watch a few channels in my package, so I have downgraded to the basic cable and saved $30 per month.

There are also streaming services that you can add on for music or entertainment packages with movies too if you want them. Amazon Prime is one of those but they don't offer it here yet. Netflix has been doing great though by giving me access to television shows from all over the world not available anywhere else at no extra cost!

Netflix is leading the pack when it comes to providing content - which makes sense because their business model was built around offering people unlimited TV episodes and films via streaming rather than owning DVDs themselves as most other companies did initially. So they've always had more options about what to license and how to make it available.

I had to upgrade my TV/Internet subscription because if I didn't, my $187 per month service was going to go up in price to about $240 per month. Why? Because I was, apparently, getting a reduced rate.

So, I had to upgrade to what they call "Ignite" service, for about $214 per month (taxes in) and now both TV and internet are wireless services. I get a few less channels (no big deal), but it does have some better aspects of service. The PVR recordings are now cloud-based and each TV gets a wireless box. I can speak into the remote for finding channels and services. There's more but all sorts of issues with other wireless devices in the house because of the internet upgrade.

Cable company was doing me big time. I gave them their stuff back and said shove it. Now I have all kinds of special offers. They can keep it. If the are more interested in giving deals to new customers than taking care of someone who paid them on time for over 30 years they just aren't the kind of people I choose to do business with.

We now have a 500/500 internet plan, 27 OTA TV channels, Netflix ( 1 device), Hula no ads and Prime video. All totaled way more TV options than I will ever watch and only about $90 bucks a month (half the last cable bill). Oh and the phone is on VOIP. Due to heavy local taxation that adds about $9 per month for the premium plan.

Not looking back and missing the cable people at all.

The nasty stuff hit the western part of the state, a hard 5 hour drive from here. I really feel for those folks, over 70 dead.

Maybe you can milk it for a new roof. :) Depends on your insurance company.

We didn't lose many tiles, so it's generally an easy, rather low-cost fix. However, the roof is a "builder install", and at best average quality material and installation. It's been 14 years since we got the keys and neighbours are starting to replace their roofs - but as a home owner yourself, you know it's not a cheap job.

Balance is they key word because I also need work done inside. The furnace, which is a builder furnace, is nearing the end of it's life-expectancy. The AC unit was installed around the same time too. Add to that, DW wants hardwood upstairs and at least the master bath reno'ed.

I wish money grew on trees.

Normally no - every once in a while though. But not yesterday. Just "big wind".
