Creative Cooking While in Self Isolation

Post by Accrete »

What creative ideas do you have for cooking while in self isolation?

Maybe the good thing that will come from this world wide crisis is that people will get back to home cooked meals thus learning how to cook again and generally save some money which could be important skills to have in the future, especially if you are on your own.

Here are some ideas from Plain Chicken using a can of cream of chicken soup: Recipes Made with a Can of Cream of Chicken Soup

Beef stroganoff is a pretty good way to get carbs and protein, and fill up the young'uns. I try to make sure we get a sirloin beef, when it's on sale and freeze it.

How about making your own taco seasoning, condensed soup, pizza sauce, homemade croutons and other stuff:
Homemade Pantry Items can be a life saver when you can’t get to the store. Additionally, they taste so much better from scratch!

I always make my own Taco and Fajita seasoning as well as my own pizza sauce which I freeze in pizza sized portions. Not counting the cost of the spices it works out to about 10 cents for pizza.

If you ever make your own Taco seasoning you will never buy one of those nasty little paks again.

Canned potatoes are great with green beans if you can't find new potatoes. Diced they an edible but not great home fry.

For a person like myself who always under or overcooks the potatoes for potato salad they are are a wonder. One can rinsed and diced along with the go withs makes about a 1# store bought tater salad.

Made Jello with bananas in it. This is something Mom use to make when we were kids.

Haven't eaten jello in years. As a kid the 'go to' stuffing was fruit cocktail.

After a dismal experience Thursday evening with a bagged muffin mix which was way out of date I decided to learn muffin making from scratch.
