Re: Server Issues
We do need some fresh air and some exercise once in a while. Why the gym? Don't tell me you're Canadian and don't play enough golf
By the way, just to stay a little on topic, the server seem to run like should again. No random reboots after the PSU fix.

Re: Server Issues
No reboots are good. Kind of like my PVR. The previous one would just freeze - I think the hard drive is kaput. The PVR I'm now using is older hardware, lags like heck going thru menus, and just turns itself off sometimes.

Re: Server Issues
It does sound like it could be a power supply issue, especially if the PVR has a sudden age. But it is a bit difficult to say without doing any measuring. If the hard drive is at fault, then it would probably be easier to let a profession repair it. If the hard drive is built in to the device, then a new hard drive would probably need to be partitioned, and populated with specific data for the device(like the old hard drive), for the device to work correctly.

Re: Server Issues
Exactly. It could be electrical, or hardware - no way of knowing right now. There are specific PVR-experienced repair shops around, but I don't want to pay $300 (or more) to try and have it repaired. Who knows how glitchy a repair could turn out to be.
For now, I'm using an older PVR that "lags" when you use menus, until the alternative is going to Rogers Ignite, which is a WiFi based internet/TV streaming service which uses cloud storage for recording and playback of shows/movies. Best plan (in and around my current "grandfathered" service) is around $170/month plus taxes.
They don't sell or rent the PVR boxes I'm using now. Which gives the extra push to upgrade. Extra wireless boxes for each other TV is $10 per month. So, this mid to upper-tiered plan, with the extra boxes (2-3) will be a little more than what I'm paying now for TV and Internet.
Highway robbery, if you ask me.

Maybe it's time for an upgrade, if the boxes is getting to old to work like they should. But , yes, everything comes at a cost. It least you don't risk a failed HDD if you use cloud storage, the big question is of course, do you need it. I personally would prefer to have that stuff stored somewhere locally(not in the cloud).

Need? No. Probably will have to give in? Probably.
Me too. I'd rather have the stuff stored locally, but, because I feel that way, I begin to feel old.I personally would prefer to have that stuff stored somewhere locally(not in the cloud).
I can hear the kids now. They used to joke about my father talking to them about "the Google box", or send the note by "the text machine".

Re: Server Issues
You're right, the younger people out there are probably more used to use cloud storage lol. That makes me feel a bit old to lol.
